Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

The annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival staged on roughly 700 acres of farm in Manchester, had its origins in 2002 with a focus on jam bands and folk rock. In the years since, the four-day music and art festival, which typically starts on the second Thursday in June, now programs a diverse array of musical styles including indie rock, classic rock, world music, hip hop, jazz, and more. Musical acts are known to play from around noon until 15:00 or even later. Unlike Coachella that happens earlier in the spring, Bonnaroo seems to place more emphasis on the (fine) art and environmentalism aspect of its festival with more and diverse engagement for its visitors to take part in. Within all the activity tents that make up the festival, The Silent Disco tent could be the most endearing. In the Silent Disco, each person entering is given a set of headphones that sync with the DJ and the music. Everyone is listening to the same song through the headphones (and dancing or grooving) while appearing from the outside to be dancing to no music at all. The exact opening date of this year’s Bonnaroo Festival is June 13.

Expect to hear from the likes of musicians that include: Airpark, AJR, Amo Amo, Balkan Bump, Bar Tropical and Deep House, Brandi Carlile, Brockhampton, Cardi B, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Cherry Glazerr, Childish Gambino, CID, Cordovas, DeafHeaven, Deva Mahal, Disco House, Dombresky, Donna Missal, Dorfex Bos, Drax Project, E-V, Friday Pilots Club, Full Service Party, Gojira, Grammatik, Grand Ole Opry, G.O.A.T. Superjam With Griz, Gucci Mane, Hippo Campus, Hobo Johnson & the Lovemakers, Hozier, Ibeyi, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, IglooGhost, Jack Harlow, Jared and The Mill, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Juice Wirld, K-Flay, Kacey Musgraves, Kalu and the Electric Joint, Katie Schecter – Lighting 100 615 Tailgate, Kikagaku Moyo, Lighting 100 and T.O.N.S. Guitar Pool, Lil Dicky, Liquid Stranger, Los Colognes, Lucas Tavares’ Airbrasil, Mac Demarco, Maren Morris, Mhadi G, Monsieur Perine, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Neno Calvin, Odesza, Parquet Courts, Peach Pit, Post Malone, Republican Hair, RL Grime, Saba, Shovels & Rope, Solange, Soul Brass Band, The Lemon Twigs, The Lumineers, The Record Company, The Soul Rebels, Tokimonsta, Trampled By Turtles, Unknown Mortal Orchestra Ximena Sarinana, Zhu, provide a sampling of performers.

Activity areas on the Bonnaroo campgrounds — aka “Tent City — add variety and eclectic participatory events to the music festival experience, and this year it seems the Bonnaroo festival program has added to the offerings. 4Ocean: Good Is The New Cool; America Mediates: A Movement for Social Change; Art To Action!
