Using Windows Media to Stream Audio and VideoWindows Media Player, a digital media player and media library developed by Microsoft, replaced an earlier piece of software called Media Player, while adding features beyond simple video or audio playback. In addition to being a media player, Windows Media Player includes the ability to rip music from and copy music to compact discs, build Audio CDs in recordable discs and synchronize content with a digital audio player (MP3 player) or other mobile devices, and enables users to purchase or rent music from a number of online music stores. Windows Media Player is available for the Windows, Windows Mobile, and Mac operating systems. On Windows computers, Windows Media Player is a feature of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, depending upon which version of the Player and Windows that you are using, you might be able to roll back to the version of the Player that was previously on your computer. You can listen to music, watch videos, and make playlists on your smart phone with Windows Media Player Mobile. Today's mobile phones can include Windows Media Player Mobile, a program that plays music and videos. Windows Media Player Mobile can play media files that are stored on the mobile phone, as well as songs and videos that you stream from the Internet. Sync your music, video, and photos to the latest portable devices, and listen to music, watch videos, or show photos anywhere in your home. Recognizing Windows Media File TypesSome notable features of the Windows Media Player include: Disc Spanning, Stacking, Integrated Web-browsing, Instant Search, Media Sharing, CD Burning, Ripping Audio CDs, Global Status. Some Windows Media MIME types include: ASF, ASX, NSC, WMA, WAX, WMV, WVX, WM, WMX, WMZ, WMD. Windows Media Video (WMV) is a compressed video compression format for several proprietary codecs developed by Microsoft.
